How to make a budget diy dolly for video and film making part 2

This article explains how to make a free or budget d.i.y dolly for video and film making, and it’s a continuation of my previous article ‘How to make a free dolly for video and film making.’

I’m assuming that you have obtained the chair or stool, and hope that you got it for free or didn’t pay too much for it!

The next step is to remove the seat and tubular steel pole that supports the seat from the chair or stool.

This is usually pretty easy. Just turn the chair or stool upside down and using a hammer knock out the tubular steel tube and seat from the base of the chair or stool. Alternatively you could use an electric disc cutter* or hacksaw to cut off the bottom of the tubular steel pole.

Either way, when you finish doing this you should now be looking at the base of an office chair or stool, which should just consist of the revolving castors, the legs and a short length of steel tube.

Anyway, this is the base unit of your free budget diy dolly for video and film making.

*Be sure to fit the correct metal disc cutting bladeĀ  and no other kind of blade to the disc cutter. Always use protective goggles and possibly protective gloves when cutting metal.
