How to make a tripod more stable in film making and photography part 4
This part (part 4) of ‘how to make a tripod more stable in film making and photography’ explains how and where to buy an ordinary low cost hardware store item that will help make the Manfrotto 718B travel tripod and other tripods more stable in windy weather conditions.
It’s a continuation of the previous post ‘how to make a tripod more stable in film making and photography part 3.’
Where and how to buy a low cost item that will help make your tripod more stable
You now need to obtain a metal hook from somewhere, and here’s how to obtain one.
Take a look around your local hardware or department store and somewhere in the paint or diy area of the store you will see that you can buy metal hooks, sometimes called ‘S hooks.’
They are intended to be used for painting, more specifically for hanging paint pots onto the rungs of a ladder. One part of the hook slips over the paint pot, the other part of the hook slips over a rung of the ladder.
Alternatively, take a look around the home furnishings area of the store. Somewhere in this area there should also be metal or ‘S hooks’ for sale. However, this time they are intended to be used in wardrobes.
What you need is a hook or S hook that will fit into or through the previously mentioned holes in the tripod.
Getting a little fussy about the low cost item that will help make your tripod more stable
In my experience it’s better if the hook fits through both holes, but if you can’t find a hook that will do this you will just have to accept a hook that fits through one hole.
Slip the hook through the holes or hole and you now have a hook that you can hang a camcorder bag, a photography bag or just about anything else on (see photo.)
This will make the tripod heavier at the base of the tripod, which will in turn make the tripod more stable in windy weather conditions.
