An accidental film making technique

This article explains how a video clip that I shot because I had accidentally left my camcorder switched on became a pretty useful video clip.

Although this was an accidental film making technique it can also be used by other film makers as a deliberate film making technique.

It was just some footage (no pun intended, but maybe it’s quite funny anyway) of my feet walking along a sandy beach that I shot because I had accidentally left my camcorder switched on.

An accidental film making technique

I was shooting a few scenes from my next short film called ‘A Christian Civilisation’ which features an explorer who is lost in the desert.
I was walking from one scene to the other along the beach with my camcorder accidentally switched on and pointing down to my feet.
When I looked at this part of the video clip it occurred to me that I could use it in the film.
I’m now using it to show the explorer’s footsteps walking through the desert.

How to use this accidental film making technique as a deliberate film making technique

This technique, of shooting moving feet, could be used by other film makers.
I have used it, with some other effects added, to show that the explorer was exhausted, so maybe it could be used to convey a state of exhaustion.
Shots of moving feet, in strong sun, and with strong shadows, can be surprisingly interesting and visually attractive.
