This part (part 2) of how to buy a laptop for video editing explains how to choose an operating system for your laptop that will run the video editing software that you might use, and how to avoid buying a laptop that won’t let you run the video editing software that you might use.
The article continues from How to buy a laptop for video editing part 1. and continues in how to buy a laptop for video editing part 3.
A little bit about video editing software and bits
Some video editing software is for ’32 bit’ operating systems and some is for ’64 bit’ operating systems.
Video editing software that is designed for a 32 bit operating system won’t work on a laptop that has a 64 bit operating system.
Buy the video editing software before buying a laptop for video editing
So if you are considering buying a laptop for video editing you should first consider what kind of video editing software you will be using on the laptop.
This means deciding whether you will be using video editing software that is designed for a 32 bit operating system or for a 64 bit operating system.
If you buy a laptop that has a 64 bit operating system and if you decide to use some video editing software that is designed for a 32 bit operating system youcan use the software on the laptop.
However, you will have to change the operating system on the laptop from a 64 bit operating system to a 32 bit operating system.
How buying the ‘wrong’ laptop can cost you money
This will cost you money because when you buy a laptop that has a 64 bit operating system on it you are also paying for this 64 bit operating system. If you take it off the laptop you are losing money because you can’t use it on another computer.
So really before you go ahead and buy a laptop for video editing you should decide which video editing software you will be using.
