‘Prosumer’ and ‘professional’ video editing software
Video editing software can either be what might be called ‘prosumer’ video editing software and what might be called ‘professional’ video editing software.
Prosumer means that it can be for professional and consumer use.
This is my description for it, it’s just a convenient way of describing it, it isn’t the manufacturers’ description.
(Why not describe it like this, though? We describe camcorders as prosumer camcorders or professional camcorders, don’t we?)
Professional video editing software – it costs money but…
Professional video editing software is more advanced and has many more features than prosumer video editing software.
It also costs quite a lot more.
This extra cost isn’t too much of a problem for professionals – for people that will use the video editing software to help make money, because eventually they will get their money back.
Prosumer video editing software – don’t worry about it
For the non-professional – and for quite a few professionals too, prosumer video editing software is fine.
A couple of examples of what I call prosumer video editing software
Ok here are two examples of video editing software that are designed for 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems. They’re in no particular order, it isn’t a case of the best being first.
Sony Vegas HD 10, which is priced at a prosumer price level, but it can and often is used by professionals, is designed for 32 bit operating systems, it won’t run on a 64 bit operating system.
However there is a professional version of Sony Vegas which is designed for 64 bit operating systems.
Meanwhile, Cyberlink Power Director is available in both 64 bit and 32 bit versions.
There are plenty of other video editing software packages out there, but this should at least help you decide which of these two popular and reliable video editing software programs to choose when you buy a laptop for video editing.
